According to the World Health Organization (WHO), anxiety, depression, and other behavioral or mental health concerns are a leading cause of illness and disability in teens. If symptoms are unaddressed, mental health or behavioral concerns can worsen. The sooner a mental health concern is detected and addressed, the better. Rehab services can be used to treat an expansive range of mental health and substance abuse needs.Â
Here are some of the most common* concerns addressed in virtual rehab at Thrive Teen:

As the name would suggest, virtual rehab is a lot like in-person rehab for addiction and mental health. However, sessions are conducted online through video calls, which means that teens do not need to commute to a treatment center for care. This often makes treatment more viable for adolescents and their families. Virtual rehab may also be referred to as online, telehealth, or remote rehab.Â
At Thrive Teen, your teen will have an individualized treatment plan. Their unique treatment plan will determine the specific treatments they engage in while in one of our programs. With that in mind, here is a little bit about what to expect in each kind of therapy, treatment, or service your teen might engage in through Thrive Teen’s virtual rehab programs for mental health and addiction. Your teen’s treatment information will always be kept confidential.Â
Evaluations are primarily used to screen for and diagnose mental health conditions and concerns. This is to ensure that a teen is being treated for the right concerns. An evaluation can also help teenagers monitor their progress, set goals, and identify areas of need throughout treatment. Most often, evaluations consist of a set of verbal or written questions.
In individual therapy, a teen will meet with a licensed mental health professional one-on-one over a video call. The therapy session will be identical to an in-person individual therapy session. What you talk about or do in a session will reflect the therapeutic modality used (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy or EMDR) and what the teen is working on. For example, anxiety, anger, depression, or trauma.Â
In group therapy, a teen will log on and enter a video call with both a licensed mental health professional and a number of peers. Each person in the group will take turns speaking as directed. A therapist will lead the session with prompts, skill-building activities, or something else, just like they would in person.
In family therapy, a teen and their parents will log on and enter a video call with a mental health professional. Like in group therapy, the therapist will lead a session. They may ask questions, give you and your teen time to update them on what has happened since the previous session, facilitate a discussion, or conduct therapy exercises.Â
At times, medication is necessary to address a teen’s full spectrum of mental health needs. In virtual medication management sessions, a teen will meet with their prescriber over a video call to discuss potential treatments, get refills, and go through the process of starting, stopping, or changing medications as needed.Â
Career and wellness counseling, mindfulness activities, and other services may be included in a teen’s treatment plan, depending on their needs. These give teens an opportunity to learn, grow, and build critical life skills that’ll aid their long-term success.
